The Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service is celebrating a milestone achievement as one of its officers undertakes advanced international training aimed at strengthening leadership and operational capacity within the department.

Fire Station Officer Junie Fleming is currently enrolled in the Fire Service Managers’ Course at the Newcastle International Airport Training Academy in the United Kingdom. The programme is internationally recognised and focuses on enhancing leadership, strategic decision-making, and operational effectiveness in modern fire and rescue services.

The comprehensive eight-unit course covers a wide range of competencies, including incident leadership, hazard and risk analysis, resource management, and team performance development. It also incorporates specialised training in aerodrome emergency planning. Aerodrome emergency planning is an area of growing importance for emergency services operating in and around airport environments.

This training aligns with the Department’s broader mission to strengthen its operational readiness and leadership structure. By investing in professional development at this level, the service aims to remain adaptable and responsive to evolving challenges in emergency management.

For Mr. Fleming, who also serves as Search and Rescue Lead, the programme marks a significant step forward in his career. The advanced training is expected to further enhance his ability to lead teams effectively and support the delivery of high-quality emergency services across Anguilla. Mr. Fleming, along with four other fire and rescue servicemen from the Cayman Islands are attending the course.

The Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service extended its best wishes to Officer Fleming as he continues his studies, describing the achievement as a proud moment for the organisation and a positive investment in the island’s safety and resilience.
