A delegation of 6 cyclists and 4 staff departed on Saturday to Antigua to compete in the Sunday’s double crown race. The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) Invitational and OECS Championship, held in Antigua on Sunday, May 31st was nothing short of spectacular. Touring through the rolling hilly terrain of Antigua’s North eastern coast, was the tarmac for this long awaited championship. The race was filled with excitement, speed and cycling attacks. At the end of the 5 laps for both the Juniors and Elite categories, 4 laps for the Masters and 3 laps for the Sport category, we are thrilled to announce another outstanding performance by Anguilla’s cyclists.
Masters B Highlights:
Craig Emmanuel delivered a dominant performance, claiming 1st place in both the ABWU and OECS categories after completing the four-lap circuit in an impressive 2:11:49.90.
Patrick Niles followed strongly, securing 2nd place in the Masters B category with a time of 2:23:09.29.
Junior Success:
Anguilla’s talented juniors also impressed on the podium.
Karmari Ruan earned 2nd place in both the ABWU and OECS Championships.
Ephraim Hughes-Hodge secured 3rd place.
Additional Standout Performances:
Captain Carl Thomas competed in the Sports category, successfully completing three laps to finish in 3rd position.
Justin Hodge (Elite) showed great determination by completing the full five-lap circuit.
Our cyclists represented Anguilla with pride and excellence, showcasing remarkable skill and sportsmanship throughout the event.
This year’s edition was especially significant, as the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union celebrated its 59th anniversary, while the OECS Championship made a welcome return after a seven-year hiatus, last being hosted by Anguilla in 2019.
Preparations are already in full swing for the 25th Annual John T Memorial Weekend Cycling Race, scheduled for July 3rd–5th in Anguilla. Get ready for this grand celebration.
