Noisy cheers, resounding laughter and the voice of John Millington on the PA system filled the atmosphere at the Webster’s Park on Friday, May 1st, as several teams of sports lovers enjoyed themselves at the annual traditional Fun-day meet.
Events Organizer, John Millington, spurred on the seven teams in colours which spangled the Park in brilliant array. They included: ANGLEC in yellow, Aurora Resort in beige, Cap Juluca Resort in maroon; Four Seasons Resort in blue; Government in turquoise; Health in red; and Police in orange. They all exerted their best effort in physical strength and skillful art as they vied with hilarious spirit to become champions of the traditional games that are featured year after year.
As many as 21 different games were played throughout the day, beginning with the “Spelling of Fun-day Race” and ending with the “Tug-of-War” finals. Also included were races like “Egg and Spoon”, “Thread de Needle”, “Four-legged Race”, “Potato Race”, “Suck it up”, “Serve it Up”, “Sack Race”, “Bottle Race”, “Hole in the Bowl”, “Obstacle Course Relay”, “Pipeline Race”, “Noodle Toss”, “Fill the Bottle”, “Skiing on Grass”, “Heavy Ball Throw”, “Whiffle Ball Throw”, “80m Sprint for Males and the “60m Sprint for Females”, and “4×100m Relay”.

At the end of the day Cap Juluca was once again crowned Tug-of -War champions as they defeated Four Seasons in the finals but not before overcoming the scare of being pulled down once. Cap Juluca, the defending champions rallied vigorously to win the second and third pulls, thus retaining their championship, which they attained last year.
Overall, Four Seasons was crowned the 2026 Fun-day Champions, with Aurora taking the 2nd position and Cap Juluca securing the 3rd position.

As usual, the Labour Day Fun-day was a day of fun and frolic yes, but it was also a day of fine food. Each team had brought along their own individual dishes from which they feasted in picnic fashion. Whether we choose to call it “Labour Day”, “May Day” or “Fun-day”, it is obvious that May 1st is becoming a day of significance in Anguilla’s cultural events calendar.
