The Smith’s ICT & Security Services Hope Through Hoops 13U Tournament came to an exciting conclusion last Thursday evening at the Rodney M. Rey Auditorium, with the Stingrays successfully defending their title to become back-to-back champions.
The evening began with the third-place playoff, where the Raptors capitalised on a depleted Jr. Hoyas squad that was missing several key players. Despite a determined effort from the Jr. Hoyas, the Raptors controlled the game and secured a 26–15 victory to finish third in this year’s competition.
In the championship final, the Ballerz fought hard to keep pace with the defending champions. However, the Stingrays came out with intensity and determination from the opening tip, displaying outstanding teamwork and defensive pressure on their way to a convincing 26–12 win to retain the championship title.
The tournament also recognised outstanding individual performances, with awards selected by the coaches, referees and scorers.
Jr. Hoyas MVP: Jalen Willock
Raptors MVP: Tishon Stay
Ballerz MVP: Collanjay Joseph
Stingrays MVP: Taye Hughes
Tournament MVP: Taye Hughes
Most Disciplined Player: Jalen Willock
Tournament organisers expressed sincere gratitude to Smith’s ICT & Security Services, the tournament’s title sponsor for the past nine years, for their continued commitment to youth basketball. Appreciation was also extended to 5 Star Media, the Anguilla Amateur Basketball Association, the Department of Sports, and the Community Services Planning Unit for their valuable support.
We would like to thank our officials – Eldesa Brooks, Sion Thomas, Ajani Connor, Hillary Connor and our referees Elio Sanchez, X’avarie Hodge and Daren Webster. The tournament would certainly not be possible without our coaches Christophe Connor-Carty, Cuthbert Jackson, Rudy Webster, McKadin Webster, Neil Gumbs and Jaiden Laurent.
Recognition was also extended to photographer Shryan Webster, Klean Stream for providing live streaming services, and Mr. Merrick Richardson for his entertaining colour commentary throughout the event.
As the curtain falls on another successful edition of the Hope Through Hoops Tournament, organisers are already looking ahead with excitement to celebrating the tournament’s 10th anniversary next year, promising another memorable showcase of youth basketball talent in Anguilla.
