The Ministry of Health, Tourism and Sports proudly marked a significant milestone in advancing healthcare standards with the closing ceremony of the first Anguilla Care Certificate Programme, celebrating the achievements of fifteen dedicated care professionals who successfully completed the programme.
The Care Certificate is a fifteen-week United Kingdom-recognized programme that establishes a consistent standard of knowledge, skills, and behaviours expected of health and social care workers. Its implementation in Anguilla reflects the Ministry of Health’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the quality, safety, and person-centered delivery of care across the health and social sectors.
The programme was introduced through a collaborative partnership between the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Ministry of Health, Tourism and Sports, with valuable technical support from colleagues in Montserrat and the British Virgin Islands.
Over several months, participants completed both theoretical and practical assessments across the Care Certificate standards, developing competencies in safeguarding, duty of care, infection prevention and control, communication, privacy and dignity, person-centered care, health and safety, and other essential areas of practice.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Nursing Officer, Ms. Twyla Bradshaw-Richardson, commended the graduates for their commitment to professional excellence.
“Today is more than the presentation of certificates; it is a celebration of dedication, resilience, and our shared commitment to delivering safe, compassionate, and high-quality care. Each graduate has demonstrated professionalism and values that define excellence in health and social care,” Ms. Bradshaw-Richardson noted.
The ceremony also recognized the facilitators and assessors whose dedication to training, mentoring, and evaluating participants ensured the successful delivery of the programme. Awards were presented to the proud participants for their outstanding academic performance, professionalism, and skills attainment.
Mr. Alec Casimir, Juvenile Care Worker, received the Top Performance Award. Reflecting on his experience, Mr. Casimir said the programme transformed his understanding of care, strengthening both his practical skills and confidence:
“The Care Certificate reminded me that every task, no matter how small, is about protecting a person’s dignity, safety, and wellbeing. It has made me a more confident professional, and I would encourage every care worker to take part in this training.”
The Ministry of Health congratulates all fifteen graduates on this rewarding achievement. The successful completion of the first Care Certificate Programme represents another important step in the Ministry’s broader vision of building a competent, confident, and compassionate workforce that is capable of meeting the evolving health and social care needs of the people of Anguilla.
