The charity group Children of the Caribbean Incorporation was represented by Board Member Mr. Thomas Hodge, who met with the Commissioner of the Department of Social Development (DSD), Mr. Stanford Richardson, on December 17th when a donation of over one thousand U.S. dollars was made to the Department of Social Development to enable it to contribute to the education of children on the island.
The DSD used the money to help less fortunate children register for examinations with the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC). The seven children, chosen with the help of the Albena Hodge Comprehensive School, gained partial scholarships having met the set criteria of being in form five and form six, having academic capability, and experiencing economic difficulties at home.
Mr. Richardson, who was pleased with the Children of the Caribbean’s donation said, “In many ways the children have become ambassadors for the charity. So it’s important that they do well. If and when they do well they make life easier for themselves and for other children who may benefit from any future endeavors in this area.”
Children of the Caribbean Incorporation is a non-profit organization that was founded on June 10, 2010 and assists deserving children in areas of education, health care and social development across the Caribbean. The Foundation’s goal is to resolve poverty, hunger, illiteracy and disease – and to replace these struggles with hope for the future. Board Member Mr. Hodge said, “The children of the Caribbean are the future, and once they are equipped with clothes, food, basic education, there is no telling what that child can accomplish. That’s really the basis of this movement. I say movement because it has garnered a lot of support in the last two years.”
The charity has helped Anguilla in the past by supplying school backpacks for children, and has decided to go a step further in assisting. You can find out more about the charity by visiting Carribbeanchild.com.
