The JC Recreational Centre has completed its 4th and final fitness programme for 2013, for youth between the ages of 14 – 19 years. It was held on the 2nd, 9th and 16th November and a total of 41 youth – including 23 first-time students – from all over Anguilla came to learn about gym etiquette, the importance of goal setting, communication skills and the fundamentals of a fitness regime.
On the first Saturday, the youth had the chance to hear from Mr. Nathan Edwards originally from Ontario, Canada, who is a medical student at St James School of Medicine. He gave his own experience of overcoming obstacles to get to where he is and he encouraged the youth to set goals and write them down so that they can stay focused when their friends attempt to distract them.
These sessions were the largest for the year, and there was a lot of enthusiasm and interest in the skills that the students were being taught by the facilitator, Coach Louis Price.

Each student took part in the practical session which included a fitness test where they were supporting each other and giving encouragement as they each, in turn, did their personal best with crunches, push-ups and tricep dips.

The JC Recreational Centre continues to seek funding for programmes such as this which welcomes participation from youth all across Anguilla and seeks to increase their overall wellbeing, in line with our Mission Statement:

“The JC Recreational Centre aims at directing and harnessing children’s energies into positive channels, such as organized sports, fitness classes and tutoring sessions to facilitate and enhance their social development”.

Any persons or organisations interested in financially sponsoring a child or one of the JCRC youth programmes, please email: jcrecreationalcentre@gmail.com.
