Sailing Association Dinghy Regatta attracts 26 competitors

The 5th Annual Dinghy Regatta attracted young sailors from St Maarten, Nevis and Puerto Rico who competed against sailors fromAnguilla. It was organised by the Anguilla Sailing Association at Sandy Ground on Saturday January 28. The races included two classes for the Optimist boats – silver and gold, as well as the Laser Radial Class and the 420 class.

Anguilla did well in the 420 class with Kenny Richardson and Starlin Rosario placing first and Jordan Peabody and Butchie Gumbs in second place. St Maarten dominated the Laser Radial Class with Rhone Findlay winning and Johanna Looser and Alec Scarabelli second.

The Optmist Silver Class was won by Ilian Hablertsma from St Maarten with Luke Bacon, also from St Maarten, in second place. The Optimist Gold Class was won by Lucas Miranda from Puerto Rico with Shemarie Richardson fromAnguillaplacing second. The sportsmanship award was won by Osvaldo de Leon fromPuerto Rico.

Fred Porter of the Anguilla Sailing Association thanked all the competitors for taking part and hoped they had a good time. He thanked the many volunteers who worked hard for the event and the sponsors that included Anguilla Aluminium, Sol Petroleum and many businesses from Anguilla and St Maarten.

Each participant was presented with a framed photo of themselves sailing and a bag with a T shirt, water bottle, cap and more.
