The Department of Youth and Culture has identified the strengthening of the capacity of young people for effective management, leadership and advocacy as desired outcomes in its youth participation programme. As a means of achieving this objective for 2013, the Department has embarked on a series of training for youth leaders and members of organisations and agencies which focus on youth development.

The first in the series of training was held at the Soroptimist centre on Thursday 20th June and targeted 24 youth leaders from 13 organisations. That training explored the topic of Proposal Writing Strategies and was facilitated by Mr. Steve McCready, Chief of Staff at the Governor’s Office and Ms. Anthea Ipinson, Chief Project Officer at the Ministers of Finance.

Participants expressed satisfaction in the delivery of the training, which included a combination of plenary, theoretical and practical sessions. The training explored in detail, the components of a project proposal, and strategies for revising, evaluating and designing project proposals.

A second training is scheduled for July 2013 and will explore the topics of Marketing Strategies and Building Organisational Membership. This training promises to be very informative and Youth Leaders, executive members of youth organisations, and members of organisations and agencies which focus on youth development are encouraged to avail themselves of this opportunity.

For more details, please contact the Department of Youth and Culture by calling 498-3792/ 497-0969 or emailing Ms. Hyacinth Augustine, Programme Officer –Youth Development at hyacinth.augustine@gov.ai
