London, 20 June 2013 – Chief Minister of Anguilla, Hon. Hubert Hughes, and Investment Officer, Perin Bradley, represented Anguilla at the Open for Growth event for the G8 last weekend. The UK/EU Representation for Anguilla facilitated a number of meetings for the delegation whilst they were in London.

Perin travelled to the OECD in Paris alongside Dorothea Hodge, the UK/EU Representative for Anguilla. The delegation met with an OECD representative to discuss the DAC funding list and the review process that will take place next year, arguing that it is unfair especially for small islands, such as Anguilla, that eligibility is based on GDP alone.
“We were delighted to make the most of our visit to the UK and meet with different organisation and institutions and talk about how we can ensure the best possible future for Anguilla”, said the Chief Minister.

The delegation also had a bilateral meeting with Mark Simmonds, the Minister responsible for the British Overseas Territories, to discuss the current challenges facing Anguilla. The Chief Minister also undertook interviews with the Financial Times, BBC Radio 4, and he was on the first page of the Guardian. Dorothea and Perin were also interviewed by the BBC.
The delegation met with the Commonwealth Foundation to discuss potential collaboration. They also met with UKTI, the government department responsible for trade and investment to discuss best practice and what can be done on the island to encourage investment.

The UK/EU Office for Anguilla also hosted an informal community event with the Anguillian Diaspora in Slough and a meeting with Anguillian professionals and Governor Designate Christina Scott, to listen to their ideas for the future of Anguilla.
