Health Planner, Mr. Lynrod Brooks and Director of Health Protection, Mr. Ambrell Richardson met with their health counterparts of Dutch St Maarten on Friday 14th June 2013.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss surveillance matters pertaining to vector control, food safety, infectious diseases, and Port Health as it relates to the International Health Regulations.

The one day meeting was considered timely as both countries are currently in the process of strengthening their surveillance systems, and there is therefore the need for greater collaboration and information sharing between both countries. Coming out of the meeting it was agreed that there is the need to formalize written instructions to support surveillance protocols/procedures.

There will be an exchange visit by the Minister of Health and health officials form St Maarten to the Ministry of Health in Anguilla later this year. Through this medium we are expressing gratitude to Dr Virginia Asin, Head of Collective Prevention Services, Ms Maria Henry, Section General Healthcare and all staff concerned for facilitating our visit at such short notice.
