The holiday on Monday, June 17, in observance of the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth the Second, will see a Family Village Fun Day at East End. The event has attracted the support of some sections of the business sector.

One of the sponsors is CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa which donated US$800 on Tuesday this week. A cheque in that amount was presented by General Manager, Mr. Stephane Zaharia, to Mrs. Cora Richardson-Hodge, Adviser to the Hope Centre Group which is one of the organisers of the function. He expressed delight in contributing to the function and offered the resort’s best wishes for its success.

Mrs Richardson Hodge said it was the first annual Village Fun Day and the donation from CuisinArt will help to reduce the cost. She also acknowledged contributions from several other donors among them being LIME, Digicel, Syd& Peat, Caribbean Juris Chambers and Bonnie and Ira Bloom.

The event is a collaborative effort involving the Hope Centre Group, the Morris Vanterpool Primary School and the Cycling Association. The school will also be hosting a yard sale as well as a bouncing castle and other entertainment for children. The Hope Centre Group will be operating a bar as part of the event.

“The idea is to have a programme where the community can come and enjoy fun,” Mrs. Richardson-Hodge explained. “There will be a domino competition, a cycling competition in hour of Deion Richardson and a number of booths with food and various items, including clothes for sale obtained by contributors throughout the East End community. It is an opportunity for families to bring their children, to relax and enjoy themselves.”

Mrs Richardson- Hodge said that the Cycling Association organised the cycling competition in honour of Deion Richardson- whose family is from the eastern area of Anguilla and he resides in The Valley. He was injured in a shooting incident. Prior to that he was a very avid cyclist and had won all the cycling races in The Long Path. The bicycle race will start at the East End Pond, travel through Island Harbour, then down through Welches to the stop light at the Mahogany Tree Corner and return to the East End Pond. This will be done three times.

Principal of the Morris Vanterpool School, Mrs Celestine John, said that everything was in place for the yard sale of various items as well as delicacies. She was pleased that the Parent Teachers’ Association had provided much assistance in organising that activity.
