Supporting our own
I wrote a letter to the editor titled The So-called Anguilla Lit Fest that was published on 31st May 2013. After receiving feedback from other Anguillians who said, ‘it’s a shame we don’t support our own’, I felt compelled to write a follow-up letter on the matter.
In October 2012, I came home to launch the publication of my book, and I’ve received endless support and praise from Anguillians for writing a book and for bringing back some old time memories, – and I am happy to say it has carried on into present day. As for Haydn Hughes, and the so-called Anguilla Lit Fest, I don’t believe they should be used as Anguillians who don’t support their own. As someone has reminded me, Haydn Hughes is not from Anguilla, and the persons who organized and planned the Lit Fest are not from Anguilla, so it’s really not that surprising that they would support non-Anguillians like themselves. All in all, I don’t feel that I was not supported by my own. In fact I was well received by my own, and still am, for what I’ve done.
I was born in the early 70s, so I knew Anguilla in its early developing stage, and the only thing they/we knew was how to support one another. Without that quality there would be no Anguilla. Those three dolphins say all you need to know about our people, and how we support one another – friendship, wisdom and strength!
I am a patriotic Anguillian, and anyone who knows me know that I support Anguilla and our people without fail, and when I published my book you all acted in kind!
