The National HIV/AIDS Programme in collaboration with the Social Security Board concluded its fifth Easter Skills Programme under the banner “Preserving Our Culture”, for youths at The Valley Youth Friendly Space.
The activities commenced on April 3rd with a session on HIV/AIDS awareness. The young people were also taught how to make Johnny cakes and bake them in an outdoor drum oven.
On the second day, a presentation was done on how salt picking, cooking outdoors, fishing, picking cotton, and washing clothes were done in the old time days.
The highlight of this programme came on the third day when the participants actually acted out the scenes of salt picking etc. on the lawn of the General Post Office.
Even though this was hampered by some well needed rain, the presentation was done and the children enjoyed themselves. Special thanks to Social Security Board and all who made the Easter Skills Programme 2013 a success.
