National Commercial Data Services (NCDS), like many or, indeed, most other businesses in Anguilla, have been feeling the pressure of high energy costs. This, perhaps, more so than others as they operate their Datacenter 24/7/365, utilizing electricity on a continuous basis to power servers and the air conditioning equipment required to cool them.
As leaders in applied appropriate technology, and turning to solar photovoltaic (PV) technology, we are in the process of commissioning a very small solar PV system at our Datacenter in The Valley.
The system, which has a rated output of only 6.58 KW, is expected to meet no more than 3% of NCDS’ electricity requirements. At that rate, however, it is expected to save the Company roughly EC$750 to EC$1050 on their monthly bill. The system will pay for itself in 5-6 years but has an expected life of 20 years.
NCDS’ solar PV system was supplied, and is being installed, by another Anguillan company, Comet Systems.
