Speaking during the first day of Government’s Medium Term Economic Strategy Review on Tuesday, European Union Ambassador Mr Mikael Barfod said Anguilla must meet certain requirements before receiving the money.

Mr Barfod said the EU will work together with Anguilla to meet the set disbursement targets for June 2013.

While on the island the Ambassador visited the Road Bay Jetty, the Jeremiah Gumbs Highway as well as the Water Distribution and Airport Expansion projects which were co-financed by the EU under past agreements with the Government of Anguilla.

The EU has a long-standing history of cooperation with Anguilla, and has been providing support since 1976.
To date the EU has provided 34 million euros to help build infrastructure in Anguilla.

During a special press conference on Wednesday at the Governor’s office the EU Ambassador said, “Anguilla is on track when it comes to our budget support, we are very pleased with the reform progress in Anguilla.”

While he pointed out areas that need improvement such as improvement on procurement reform, improvement on tax collection, revenue enhancement through property tax legislation reform he said Anguilla was in good standing.
