ANGUILLA—An exhibition of new work by Tanya Clark was opened on Thursday February 21 at the Phoenix Gallery at South Hill. A large number of persons were present to admire the talented paintings – the large number of paintings on display. The paintings were mainly in oil on canvas, but there were seven fabric designs included in the excellent work.
In the main room there were four sections exhibited: storm scenes, clouds, succulents and beaches. Another small room was devoted to underwater scenes and there was also a display of carnival paintings. These were available in a limited edition of fine art giclee prints.

Tanya is a Canadian artist and printmaker who studied lithography, etching and painting at Emily Carr College of Art in Vancouver. She has lived in Anguilla for the past 19 years. Prior to that she lived in Japan where she studied with world renowned woodblock printmaker, Toshi Yoshida, in Tokyo. In 1991 Tanya became the first non-Japanese to have her work recognized by winning the top prize for a new member at the Nihonhangakai Exhibition in Tokyo. This annual competition is the largest show worldwide for woodblock prints and attracts about 2000 entries internationally.
