I will never leave you! What an awesome promise! Has anyone ever said that to you? “Hon,I will never leave you!.” If yes, how did that make you feel? Did that not give you a wonderful feeling to know that you will never be left alone? Did that not give you a sense of security? Well, my friend, it would indeed be comforting to be told and be assured by that special someone in your life that he or she will never leave you, but is that really true? Think about it for a minute.
You see, many times in our lives, people whom we have trusted turn their backs upon us.They promised to be there but they eventually walked away. At other times, no fault of their own, death snatched them away. But there is one person whom we can depend on to be there for us no matter what, and his name is Jesus. He has promised He will never, ever leave us alone. We can always trust in him to be there for us, no matter how hard and how far we fall.
This assurance is expressed several times in scripture as well:
Deuteronomy 31:6 -“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
Joshua 1:5 –“No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.”
1 Kings 8:57 –“May the Lord our God be with us, as He was with our fathers. May He not leave us nor forsake us.”
1 Chronicles 28:20 –“And David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God my God will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.”’
Hebrews 13:5 -Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Is that not awesome my friend? We have absolutely nothing to fear, nothing to worry about if we truly believe that promise He made to us.This short, but powerful, promise assures us that God is sufficient for all our needs. It ought to affect our contentment and our confidence. Don’t you think so?This marvelous promise of security ought to serve to strengthen us in the face of any and all opposition, all of our challenges, and in all our fears if we only depth the truth of His promise.
Other people will leave us and forsake us for various reasons but God never will. He will never leave us because we are poor. He will never leave us no matter what people say about us or accuse us of. He will never leave us because other people think we are too old or too young. He will never leave us even when others let us down – and He will never leave us even when we ourselves let Him down. Oh! What a God we serve, my friend. We ought to give Him thanks and praise, on a daily basis, for being with us no matter what state we may find ourselves in. Thank God for His unconditional love towards us. He is ever faithful and ever true.
His promise to never leave or forsake us is not conditional on anything we say or do, or on what we have done or left undone. That promise can help us when we feel depressed about life. His promise is constant. It will never, ever change. Ludie D. Pickett said it succinctly:
No, never alone, No, never alone,He promised never to leave me,Never to leave me alone. Is that not wonderful?
He continues:
I’ve seen the lightning flashing,And heard the thunder roll,
I’ve felt sin’s breakers dashing,Trying to conquer my soul;
I’ve heard the voice of my Savior,Telling me still to fight on,
He promised never to leave me,Never to leave me alone.
Refrain:
No, never alone,No, never alone,
He promised never to leave me,Never to leave me alone.
The world’s fierce winds are blowing,Temptation’s sharp and keen,
I have a peace in knowing My Savior stands between—
He stands to shield me from danger,When earthly friends are gone,
He promised never to leave me,Never to leave me alone.
When in affliction’s valley I’m treading the road of care,
My Savior helps me to carryMy cross when heavy to bear,
Though all around me is darkness,Earthly joys all flown;
My Savior whispers His promise,“I never will leave thee alone.”
He died for me on the mountain,For me they pierced His side,
For me He opened the fountain,The crimson, cleansing tide;
For me He’s waiting in glory,Seated upon His throne,
He promised never to leave me,Never to leave me alone. Never Alone
