The storm, the eye of which by-passed Anguilla, later developed into a hurricane on a course across the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, parts of Hispaniola, Turks and Caicos Islands and the Bahamas.  ADVERTISEMENT
Anguilla was drenched with rain and raked by high gusts of wind, which caused little or no damage. Some beach erosion occurred along various parts of the island’s coastline, with the waves dumping the red, brown and green seaweed on the beaches.
Much of the seaweed was taken away by a number of persons for use as fertilizer. It was alleged, however, that in a few cases the opportunity was taken by others to illegally remove sand, under the cover of sea moss, from the beaches. |
