Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel, Anguilla, is proud to celebrate Kareen Harrigan, our Recreation & Retail Manager, and now FWIC having been awarded an Honorary Life Fellowship of the West India Committee; one of the Caribbean’s most prestigious honours, recognising individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the region.
Founded in 1735 in the City of London, the West India Committee is the oldest representative body of the Commonwealth. Operating under Royal Charter and reporting to His Majesty the King in Privy Council, the Committee champions education, trade, advocacy and sustainable development across the Caribbean. Its Honorary Fellowships recognise individuals whose leadership and service have made a lasting impact on the region.
The Fellowship was presented by Victor Banks, former Premier of Anguilla and Trustee of the West India Committee, during a special ceremony surrounded by family, guests and team members at Cap Juluca on Wednesday, July 29.
Kareen’s recognition follows an exceptional year of international achievement. Earlier this year, she was named among the Top Three Finalists in Belmond’s IGNITE Global Innovation Programme, an initiative that empowers employees across Belmond’s global portfolio to develop forward-thinking ideas that enhance the future of luxury hospitality. Through the programme, Kareen presented The Inner Journey Blueprint, an innovative concept centred on creating more meaningful and personalised guest experiences.
Her success reflects Belmond’s continued investment in developing its people, providing opportunities for talented team members to innovate, collaborate and contribute on a global stage. It is this commitment to nurturing leadership and creativity that helped pave the way for Kareen’s international recognition.
“We are incredibly proud of Kareen and all she has accomplished,” said Ian Richardson, Resort Manager of Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel. “This honour recognises not only her passion for hospitality and innovation, but also the positive impact she continues to make on our guests, our colleagues and our industry. Kareen embodies the values of excellence and genuine care that define both Cap Juluca and Belmond.”
Reflecting on the recognition, Kareen said: “I am deeply humbled to receive this Honorary Life Fellowship. This recognition represents far more than my own journey.
It reflects the encouragement of mentors, the dedication of exceptional colleagues and the unwavering support of my community. I hope it inspires others to pursue excellence with integrity, lead with compassion and believe in the impact that thoughtful hospitality can have on people’s lives.”
Kareen’s achievement is a proud moment for Cap Juluca, Belmond and Anguilla, demonstrating how local talent, when supported through meaningful opportunities for growth and innovation, can earn recognition on the international stage.
