The Valley, Anguilla 27 July 2026 – The Regional Law Revision Centre Inc. (The Centre) proudly congratulates Ms. Michelle A R Daley on her historic election as President of the Commonwealth Association of Legislative Counsel (CALC) and Mr. Shaquille Newton on his election as Americas Representative on the CALC Council. These appointments represent a significant milestone for the Caribbean and the wider Commonwealth legislative drafting community. Ms. Daley, a Jamaican national, is the first Caribbean national to serve as President of CALC, while Mr. Newton is the first Barbadian elected to the CALC Council.
The Centre is especially proud that both Ms. Daley and Mr. Newton are alumni of the Centre’s Consolidation of Laws Training Programme, which equips legislative drafters and legal professionals with practical skills in law consolidation and the use of cloud document management in the consolidation process.
The CALC 2026 conference was held from 15-17 July, 2026 at the Fullerton Hotel in Singapore. The Centre was represented by Ms. Yolande Dash, Manager/Legislative Publisher, and Mrs. Genefa Fedee, Business Development Executive. During the conference, they had the pleasure of reconnecting with several former participants of the Centre’s training programme, including Mrs. Susan Jarvis, Legal Adviser for Legislative Support and Law Reform at the Commonwealth Secretariat and Mrs. Monalisa Mileng, Legal Officer from the Office of Legislative Counsel, Papua New Guinea.
These reunions highlight the lasting professional relationships established through the Centre’s training initiatives and demonstrates the growing international network of legislative professionals committed to advancing legislative drafting and law revision across the Commonwealth.
Commenting on the appointments, Ms. Dash said “The election of Michelle Daley and Shaquille Newton to these prestigious leadership positions is a proud moment not only for the Caribbean, but also for everyone committed to strengthening legislative excellence across the Commonwealth. Their achievements demonstrate the exceptional calibre of professionals emerging from our region and reinforce the importance of continued investment in capacity building through initiatives such as the Centre’s Consolidation of Laws Training Programme. We extend our warmest congratulations and wish them every success as they help shape the future of CALC.”
The Centre remains committed to supporting governments, Attorneys General Chambers, and legislative drafting offices throughout the Commonwealth through specialized training, law revision services, and the promotion of legislative best practices.
