On the morning of Wednesday, July 1st 2026, The Valley Primary School held its annual graduation at the Mount Fortune Seventh-day Adventist Church. This marked the third in a series of six primary school commencement exercises, with its theme: “Turning Every Opportunity into Reality”.
Following the singing of the National Song and the School Song, a fervent prayer was offered by Pastor David Christmas. He thanked God for the hope that is cherished for every child, and he asked Him to bless their aspirations for a future of success, protection and prosperity.

As Principal Shauna Connor warmly welcomed the attendees, she counted the day not only as one of celebration, but a day of reflection, gratitude and hope.
“We are here not only to recognize the student’s academic achievements,” she said, “but also the growth, resilience, friendships and character that the students have developed over the important primary school years.
“Our theme reminds us that success does not happen by chance. Every lesson learned, every challenge overcome, every act of kindness and every opportunity embraced have all helped to shape these young people who graduate today…”
The Keynote Speaker was School Counselor, Mentor, and Educator, Mikeela Skellekie-Cunningham, Miss Anguilla 2018. She spoke of perseverance – “so much perseverance.” She pointed to the graduands’ perseverance which had led them to this point in their education, and she alluded to the support that they received as they journeyed along.
“Parents, teachers, and well-wishers, this moment also belongs to all of you,” she said. “I commend you all for every decision that you made to support the class of 2026. So please accept my warmest congratulations.”
In speaking to the graduands themselves, Mrs. Skellekie-Cunningham pointed to the virtues of knowing who they are; knowing their values; forming a strong belief in a positive self image; and being true to themselves and their values, especially when no one is looking.

She also highlighted the aspect of inter-dependence. “No man is an island unto himself,” she attested. “And there will always be times in your lives when you will need to depend upon someone else for support.”
She then pointed out the importance of community. “Everyone has something meaningful and positive to share in your individual communities,” she said. Further, she noted: “Remember that there are opportunities everywhere, but they would be easier to detect within your communities. So seize the moment when these opportunities arise and always try to put your best foot forward to attain the rewards.”
Following the Keynote Address, a special song, “After All These Years You’re Still Good”, made popular by Todd Galberth, was sung by local renowned gospel artist, Danielle Browne.
The time then came for the issuance of certificates, various awards and school supplies, followed by the introduction of the Valedictorian, Chaya Brooks.
Chaya reflected upon her first day in Valley Primary School, entering as a Fourth Grader. She remembered her racing heart as she entered the school gate. But, it was a heart that was filled with a hope and prayer that she would be ultimately successful.
“The Valley Primary School has a beautiful way of turning dreamers into family. It does not matter when you join the journey, whether you grow up from Kindergarten or arrive later, as I did. In time, we all become one…”
“Looking back,” she said, “I realize that the nervous Fourth Grade girl who walked through the gates that morning for the time was simply looking for an opportunity to continue growing. This speaks perfectly to our graduation theme, “Turning Every Opportunity into Reality”.

“This theme,” the Valedictorian said, “reminds us that success is not a matter of luck, nor is it something we passively wait for. But it is a reality that is actively built through hard work resilience and an unwavering belief in one’s self. To anchor this truth, we can look at the timeless wisdom in Scripture found in Proverbs 16 verse 3 which says: ‘Commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans.”
Thoughtfully, Chaya solicited a moment of silence in memory of the ever-popular charismatic Coach Angela, who was her cousin, in fact, and who motivated her immensely, as well as many of her classmates. She thanked all those supporters who had played a part in guiding and assisting her along with her peers, and she promised to do her best as she and her fellow graduates continue their educational journey in Secondary School.
The position of the Salutatorian was jointly held by Mauricio Sant Villaorduna and Leeanne Warner, who shared the task of presenting the Vote of Thanks.
Three Grade Six teachers: Shakibah Fanus, Terron Azille, and Reine Charlery, then presented the Graduated Class of 2026.
