The Black and Gold Track Club is celebrating another proud moment as two of its young athletes, K’La Hughes and L’Ky Hughes, delivered outstanding performances at the Flying Angels Track Meet in Ontario, Canada.
Although the trip to Canada was primarily a family trip, the athletes’ parents seized the opportunity to have K’La and L’Ky compete after learning that the Flying Angels Track Meet coincided with their visit. The decision proved to be a memorable one, providing both athletes with valuable international competition experience while proudly representing the Black and Gold Track Club and Anguilla.
Competing against a talented field of athletes, K’La Hughes captured gold medals in the Under-8 Girls 100m and 200m. She also etched her name into the meet’s history by breaking the Under-8 Girls 200m record, which had stood since 2015.
Her brother, L’Ky Hughes, also produced an impressive performance, earning silver medals in the Under-11 Boys 100m, 200m, and Long Jump, demonstrating determination and consistency throughout the competition.
The Black and Gold Track Club commends K’La and L’Ky for their dedication, discipline, and exemplary sportsmanship. Their performances reflect the value of hard work, quality coaching, and strong family support, while reinforcing the importance of exposing young athletes to competition beyond Anguilla.
“We are incredibly proud of K’La and L’Ky,” the Club stated. “International opportunities such as these help our young athletes grow both on and off the track. To see them represent the Black and Gold Track Club and Anguilla with such confidence, determination, and success is truly rewarding. We congratulate them on their achievements and look forward to their continued growth and future accomplishments.”
K’La and L’Ky will also be representing the Black and Gold Track Club and Anguilla at the Nevis Culturama Games, slated for later this month. The Black and Gold Track Club congratulates K’La and L’Ky on an exceptional showing in Canada and wishes them continued success as they continue to develop as young athletes.
One Team. One Track. One Dream.
