Thursday June 11th, 2026 marked another memorable celebration of intellectual health and sportsmanship for the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School (ALHCS) house teams who competed in the Annual Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyles Quiz held at the Campus Q Resources Room. Three members from each House, namely Purple Mansion, Yellow Hornets, Pink Panthers, Maroon Dragons, and Orange United participated in this outstanding display of nutritional wits and health awareness.
At the event’s opening, motivating addresses were presented by the Honourable Minister of Health, Mr. Cardigan Connor, as well as the Honourable Senior Health Advisor, Mr. Evans McNeil Rogers, both of whom stressed the importance of healthy nutritional habits coupled with adequate exercise for maintaining a fit and wholesome body.
Quiz Master was the school’s Deputy Principal, Mr. Rondy Isles-Carty, who skillfully guided the two rounds in knock-out style format. Online viewers could also participate as the event was streamed live via Klean Stream.

This year’s Inter-House Quiz holds a dual significance as it is one of the awareness highlight activities commemorating Caribbean Nutrition Month 2026, under the theme: “Healthy Eating, Active Living: Promoting Caribbean Foods as Medicine: Eat Local, Explore Food as Medicine and Move More”. This theme is intended to enhance nutrition awareness across the Caribbean region and here in Anguilla.
While the Inter-house Health Quiz is a new experience each year for the Forth Form students who participate in it, the programme itself is stalwart among the initiatives conducted through the Department of Health Services, coordinated by Community Nutrition Services led by Ms. Robertha Campbell, in partnership with the ALHCS, the Department of Education (DOE) and Health Promotions, along with other Departments and private establishments spanning nearly two decades.
The main goals of the quiz have remained the same since the event’s inception. The aim is to achieve the following: 1. To improve the nutritional status and physical activity level of children and adolescents; and 2. To improve nutritional awareness among the adolescent population in Anguilla.
The quiz topics covered included: Nutrition and Healthy Eating; Understanding Nutrition Labels; STI Awareness (facilitated by Heath Promotions – Mrs. Jennifer Gumbs and STI/HIV – Ms. April Richardson of MOH); Mental Health and the Impact of Peer Pressure ( facilitated by Ms. Natasha Irish and Team) and the Impact of Sports on Health and Wellness (facilitated by Sports Department Coach Everet Claxton.) House Captains and teachers worked along with students selected to further prepare them to participate in the Quiz.
Acknowledgements at the end of Thursday’s event came from Community Nutrition Services Lead, Ms. Robertha Campbell, who was a key organizer of the programme. She commented: “We thank God for guiding the proceedings and the success accomplished today. We trust that these accomplishments will continue to bear fruit in the future.”
“We wish to thank all of our sponsors National Caribbean Insurance for their consistent support,” she continued. “We also acknowledge the contribution of Ms. Cheryl Skellekie, Ms. Carla Harris and the entire staff at the DOE; the Personal Social Health and Economic (PSHE) Coordinator; the faculty of ALHCS; Ms. Shaniqua Hodge, Mrs. Jennifer Gumbs and the Ministry of Health (MOH) Staff; and all those who assisted in the planning and execution of this initiative.”
“The Youth of our nation was once again positively influenced to make healthier choices, thanks to the collective commitment of our health and wellness officers,” Ms. Campbell said.
