The teachers and students at the Alwyn Richardson Primary School, at West End, are grateful to Viceroy Anguilla for improving the playing facilities at the school’s basketball court.

The resort, which first provided lights for the court, has now supplied new hoops and blackboards and, through a United States partner, has donated basketball sneakers for the young players as well.

Viceroy’s Director of Finance, Jose Flores, told a gathering of children and teachers, late last week, that the resort was pleased to have been able to contribute to the development of the court. He also expressed the hope that the resort would provide further assistance later.

The resort’s General Manager, Richard Alexander, was delighted that Viceroy was “selected to provide such wonderful basketball hoops for the children. I hope they would give the children hours of enjoyment. They certainly look spectacular on the court. Perhaps we need to do something about the actual court next. We are very proud to be associated with the West End School. I think basketball is one of those wonderful sports that children enjoy, and develop certain characteristics in their personalities to set them up for a really wonderful future.”

Elected Representative for West End, Walcott Richardson, challenged Mr Flores, a close associate of the Miami Heats, to bring an exhibition of that basketball team to Anguilla. To that, Mr Flores replied: “I would be more than happy to take that challenge.”

The Minister urged the children to take care of their basketball court and to use it effectively. He said he was anxious to hear about the successes of the students in all areas of sports, and added that he was hoping to complete negotiations for additional land for other recreational purposes.

Deputy Principal, Tricia Richardson, thanked Viceroy on behalf of the Principal and staff for its continuing contribution to the school and to the development of the children.
