The telecommunications companies in Anguilla, Lime and Digicel, have jointly shared in the provision of sponsorship funds for the Unity Jam which is part of the activities for Police Week.
The event will be held on Friday, January 27, at the Commercial Complex in The Valley. Both Lime and Digicel have contributed equally to the sponsorship: Lime US$2,500 and Digicel the EC equivalent of $6,700.
Lime Anguilla’s General Manager, Mark Romney, extended heartiest congratulations to the Royal Anguilla Police Force on the celebration of its Forty-first Anniversary and was happy that his company was part of the grand unity affair.
“We all are very much cognisant of the problems we are having in Anguilla with gang violence, and this move is an attempt to quell the violence and bring much more unity amongst our youth in particular,” he said.
Mr. Romney was delighted that Lime’s platinum sponsored musical band, Panther Vibes International, would be a star performer for the event. “The band has really been carrying the flag of Lime very well over the number of years we have been associated with the group,” he stated.

Digicel’s Corporate Sales Manager, Colwayne Pickering, said his company was also proud to be part of Police Week. “The whole concept of unity is one that must be heralded not only in Anguilla but throughout the world,” he said. “We bash the Police a lot when they don’t do things right, so I think it is only fitting for us to commend them on trying to bring the communities together here in Anguilla.”

Chairman of the Police Week of activities, Randolph Yearwood, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner, and other ranks of the Force, was grateful to Lime and Digicel for their partnership roles. “The Unity Jam is all about bringing togetherness among our young people,” he explained.

Mr. Yearwood said there would be a number of speakers at the event including persons who were involved in criminal activities, but had changed around their lives. “They will be on stage giving a positive message to the young people of Anguilla,” he went on. “We will also have the Commissioner of Police and members of the AnguillIan community speaking. There will be two main bands performing: Panther Vibes and Exodus Band.”

Police Week will commence on Sunday, January 27, with an Anniversary Service at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, East End.
