Enthusiasm filled the air on the morning of Wednesday, March 27th as the Pathfinders drum band struck up the beat to get the activities for the Tropical sponsored Inter-Primary School Sports Day 2024, underway.
Primary School teams briskly traversed the inner circumference of the Webster Park in an exciting march past, setting the stage for an athletic battle between the Gathers of Vivien Vanterpool Primary; the Dragons of Morris Primary; the Panthers of Orealia Kelly Primary; the Golden Horses of Valley Primary; the Rams of Adrian T. Hazel Primary; the Grey Wolves of Alwyn Allison Primary; the Omololu Primary Dolphins; and the Home Schools.
Prayer for God’s protection and smooth running of the day’s events were offered by Rev. Candis Niles of the Methodist Church.
The 2024 Sports Day activities were opened by the Honourable Minister of Social Development and Education, Ms. Dee-Ann Kentish-Rogers.
“We are expecting that all our athletes and coaches are going on the field today to give it their best shot,” the Sports Minister said. “Whoever will be the Champion today, we are here to support you and we encourage you to run well.
“I want to take this opportunity to remind all of the persons who are supporting the athletes today that this is a competition, yes, but all these athletes belong to us. So let us give encouragement to every single one of our athletes, irrespective of the school that they are representing. Let us cheer on all of the competitors in all of the races on this Sports Day…
“With that said, I now declare this year’s Inter-Primary School Sport Day 2024 officially open.”
Throughout the course of the day large numbers of persons from public life descended to the Park to witness the contestants at their games. Large crowds filled the stadium enjoying Anguilla’s young athletes showing of their physical skills.
