More than 600 students from third to sixth form including the Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and the Workshop Initiative Secondary Education (WISE) attended the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School (ALHCS) Careers Fair held on 7 March 2024 at the Royal Caribbean in Swing High.

According to Ms. Jasentha Crawford, Careers Coordinator, and organiser of this year’s event, the success of the careers fair went beyond high student attendance numbers. Industry participation was strong; more than 20 different entities presented booths that were stimulating and informative. This led to a very upbeat vibe and positive student engagement which is one of the primary indicators of the event’s success.

The ALHCS’ careers fair has two linked goals. It is meant to expose students to a range of career options, to help them gain insight into what specific careers entail, and the education and training required for entry. Students get to ask questions of professionals in their respective fields and to understand some of the day to day realities compared to more theoretical research. Equally, it also provides an opportunity for recruiters, employers, and businesses to share information to the young people who will soon be entering the work force.
Careers Coordinator, Ms. Jasentha Crawford thanked all the private sector businesses and various government departments that participated in the event including Malliouhana Hotel, Belmond Cap Juluca, Four Seasons Hotel, Aurora Anguilla Resort and Golf Club, Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, Utilities, Housing and Tourism, Immigration Department, Department of Probation, Department of Social Development, Department of Youth and Culture, Public Administration, Fisheries Unit in the Department of Natural Resources, National Commercial Bank of Anguilla, Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority, Royal Anguilla Police Force, UWI Open Campus, Anguilla Community College, Anguilla Teachers Union, ANI Art Academies, Tangie Huggins of Art by Tangie, Black Orchid, La Severine Fitness and Massage services, Symvoli Marketing, IN Anguilla/Titanium Audiovisuals, Royale Caribbean Hotel, Department of Education, the Guidance and Counselling Department as well as staff at the ALHCS.
