The ground work continues on the foundation of the sports facility in Blowing Point and the construction team is busy preparing the support for the steel beams and the concrete slab. The 5,000 square foot structure is being constructed in the northeast section of the Blowing Point Ball Field.
According to the Honorable Minister of Infrastructure, Mr. Haydn Hughes, the structure is expected to be completed by the end of March, 2024 and will feature spaces for basketball, volleyball and floor games, complete with restrooms and changing rooms. “In addition,” Mr. Hughes said, “FIFA will install a soccer field and a DART activity centre for children.”
“The Blowing Point Sports Facility is a promise that I made during the 2020 election campaign,” the Minister noted, “And it will be yet another promise delivered. It will be a welcomed space for the island’s sporting activities, where the young, and not so young, can meet and hone their skills regardless of weather conditions.”
The Honourable Minister of Social Development, Ms. Dee-Ann Kentish-Rogers, who is responsible for sports, expressed her delight at the beginning of the work on the sports facility. She said she is looking forward to its completion, at which time it will provide sports and recreational activities not only for the youth in the Blowing Point area, but for the youth of the wider Anguillian community.
“This project is a collaborative effort between the elected Member for Road South, Mr. Haydn Hughes, Mr. Jere-Lee Buddle, Mr. Robert Shaymis, the Honourable Dee-Ann Kentish-Rogers and the Government of Anguilla,” said Minister Hughes.
