The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of the Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority (AASPA) confirms that the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (CJLIA) experienced an emergency closure today 4th July, 2023 from 1400hrs to 1506hrs.
At about 1400hrs emergency services reported to the runway to assist aircraft N15YP, a PA-28 aircraft, inbound from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Initial reports suggest that a nose gear failure rendered the aircraft immobile on the runway.
The emergency teams dispatched coordinated with the Airport Management Team and the CJLIA was temporarily closed to ensure the safety and security measures were adhered to during the emergency response.
Further, preliminary indications suggest that none of the three souls onboard the aircraft carried was harmed.
The aircraft was towed to safety from the runway, after which emergency inspections of the runway were undertaken. Satisfied that the response to the emergency was completed, airport operations resumed at 1506hrs.
The AASPA will continue to pursue this matter with the relevant authorities. The AASPA extends apologies to the traveling public and the operators at the CJLIA who were delayed as a result of the incident.
The AASPA also extends its gratitude to all stakeholders at CJLIA, especially its management and support staff, the Anguilla Fire and Rescue Services, Lloyd’s Aviation and Gumbs Aircraft Maintenance Ltd.
