Sunzahra Liburd Banks has successfully completed her Sophomore year at Savannah State University with a 4.0 GPA.
Two years into her college journey – Sunzahra has created an impressive path for herself. Academically, this semester she has remained at the top of her class with straight A’s, and a GPA of 4.0.

Sunzahra has also been improving steadily on court. Her tennis team did not make it to the conference finals this year, nonetheless, she had an amazing experience with her team in her role as Team Captain.

As a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Sunzahra took on the task of hosting the athletic banquet this year where she was presented the W. W. Law Scholarship for her exceptional grades and countless hours of community service.

While Sunzahra continues to excel on and off court, she has proven to be a stellar achiever in the community as well.

Sunzahra said, “This year was an interesting one for me. I’m glad to have had multiple support from not only my family, friends and SSU Coach, but also my coaches at the Anguilla Tennis Academy who I connected with frequently. Over the year, I’ve found myself in challenging situations which have prompted my growth and I’m more than happy for the experience. I look forward to starting my Junior year in Fall 2023”.

She served as the secretary for the Student Orientation Leaders, where she hosted several events for the freshman class. Sunzahra completed the programme earning the highest GPA award. In March, she travelled to Florida with her group to participate in a Student Orientation Leaders Conference where she competed in a case study competition. Her team was awarded the Spirit Award for their great energy over the course of the conference.

As the Vice President of the International Students Association, Sunzahra hosted several events for her international family.

This year, she and her executive team met with the university President and administration on several occasions as they fought to secure Gardner Hall – the home away from home for international students.

Sunzahra remains active as an Honor student and will be awarded the Presidential Scholarship for her high GPA.

Currently she is interning with the Dallas County School District to gain invaluable experience as a Public Relations major and Marketing minor.
