The Anguilla Cycling Association (ACA) held its first race of the year, under the new cycling administration, on Sunday, February 12th, 2023. As a pre-valentine’s activity, lovers of cycling came out in their numbers to witness some of Anguilla’s top cyclists battle with visiting cyclists form both French and Dutch St. Martin/Maarten. The style of Cycling exhibited is known as Criterium or, “Crit Cycling.” A Criterium, or Crit, is a type of bicycle race consisting of laps on a closed circuit. Criteriums are known as the fastest and most intense form of bike racing. This activity took place at a 2.8K circuit, which encompasses the Valley, Stoney Ground Main Road and the Queen Elisabeth Ave.

Races were held for various categories which included Females, Minime, Cadet, Novice, Juniors, Masters B, Masters A, and Elite Cyclists. A total of 27 Cyclists took part in this exciting race. Spectators got to see top Elite Cyclists like Delroy Carty, the return of Daren Carty, Hassani Hennis and Zambezi Richardson. Please note that this was Zambezi’s last race before travelling to Zappi Cycling Academy in Italy. Prizes were offered for the first three positions. Primes were also offered as an incentive. Primes are a way to encourage more competitive riding, and also an opportunity for companies to gain publicity by sponsoring a prime.
