Some 66 students from the various youth and community centres across Anguilla have been engaged in fun craft activities at Campus B, as part of their annual Joint Summer Camp organised by the Centre Managers and facilitated by various volunteers and Visual Art Teachers from the ALHCS.
The Joint Summer Camp, which started out in 2010 as an initiative between the Blowing Point Youth Development Centre and the Island Harbour Care centre, has proven to be a very effective way of bringing the children and young people from the various communities together.
Now in its 12th year, Joint Summer Camp has expanded to include six communit

y centres from around the length and breadth of Anguilla – HOPE Centre at East End, Herchel Gumbs Community Support Centre in the Valley, Comprehensive Learning Centre at North Hill, Eleos Centre at Sandy Ground, Blowing Point Youth Development Centre and the West End Community Development Centre.
This year’s camp, which focused on “The Beach and Seaside” was geared towards engaging the students in creative expressions while showcasing Anguilla’s pristine beaches and gorgeous seaside sceneries, along with the flora and fauna. Some of the activities included painting, pottery making and collage creations using pictures of birds, trees, fish and boats.
The camp started on Monday July 25, and will culminate on Friday July 29, 2022, with a display of the students’ work from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm at the Campus B quadrangle. Parents and the general public will have an opportunity to come in and view the children’s creations.
The Centre Managers take this opportunity to thank all those who assisted in one way or another to make the week’s activities a success. Thanks to well known artist, Susan Croft, for her time and resources to assist in the art activity. Thanks to the Visual Art Teachers of the ALHCS and other volunteers for their commitment and generosity. Last, but not least, a sincere thank you is extended to the Department of Youth and culture for sponsoring and supporting this annual camp over the years.
