District 3 Valley North newly elected representative, Mrs Shellya Rogers-Webster, took an Oath of Allegiance to her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth 11, her heirs and successors, at a swearing in ceremony at the Anguilla House of Assembly on Friday, May 27, 2022.
Mrs Rogers-Webster, a member of the AUF political party and a member of the Opposition in the House, spoke during the Fourteenth Meeting of the Second Session of the Twelfth Anguilla House of Assembly.
She said: “I accept with humility, this honourable title of representative for the Valley North District. As I look at the faces across the room, I am reminded of why I am here today.

“It is not merely to be sworn in as your duly elected representative of Valley North. It is with absolute pride and honour that I am sworn in here today on behalf of the people. My heart swells with pride – pride for the journey that I have taken; pride for the people who have taken this journey with me.
“One reoccurring theme throughout my campaign has been about the people of Valley North, and for the past two months, it has been about servant leadership. Every message that I have penned, every conversation that I have had with the people, every household that I have visited and every platform that I have spoken on, was about servant leadership.

“I remain resolute in my commitment, and by extension, my resolve to the people of Valley North and Anguilla. I reconfirm my commitment to serve my people. I reconfirm my commitment to honour my people, to be there for my people in times of sorrow, of happiness, and of success and failures.
“There is no way that I could have done this on my own and so, I take this opportunity to register my gratitude and appreciation to the many persons within the machinery that have worked from day one to ensure that I can stand and sit here today in this Honourable House.”
Mrs Rogers-Webster thanked many different groups and categories of people to whom she accredited her newly acquired title, and made the commitment to stand ready to represent every person in Valley North.
