With the assistance of the Department of Sports Anguilla, Anguilla’s top cyclist, Hasani Hennis, has today started his over 10 hour journey to Argentina to participate in the 2022 PanAmerican Cycling Championships slated for this weekend.
At 2pm (1pm Axa Time) on Sunday, May 15, Hasani will carry Anguilla’s flag across his chest and pedal off with some of the big guns from Argentina, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Dominica, El Salvador, Ecuador, Grenada, Guatemala, Peru, Panama, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent, Uruguay and Venezuela.
At last year’s event in the Dominican Republic, in August, Hasani finished 9th in a bunch sprint. Being in much better form, and registering some excellent results in recent times, it’s expected that he will do Anguilla proud.
Unfortunately, due to the high cost of airfare, we were unable to make it possible to have other cyclists attend – and Hasani will be the only cyclist from Anguilla, and will do battle alone in the saddle for our 35 square mile island in the 194.5km (app. 120 miles) road race.
The Anguilla Cycling Association extends best wishes and safe travel to Hasani.
