This year from 28th July to 8th August, the Commonwealth Games 2022 will be held in Birmingham, England, where Anguilla’s athletes will join over three thousand others from around the Commonwealth representing its seventy-two countries and territories. At the same time the inaugural Commonwealth esports championships will be played.

The esports event at Birmingham 2022 will be held independently and will have its own round of medals and titles. It will be held at the International Convention Centre on August 6 and 7, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has announced.

Apart from the eleven athletes, in boxing, cycling, swimming and track and field, who will be wearing the Anguilla colours on their backs, there will be others representing other teams who will be wearing our colours in their hearts. Sixteen-year-old India “Alanis” Browne of South Hill, Anguilla, known in the gaming world as “Alanis”, will be one of those. But she won’t be on the track. She will be representing England as a Rocket League Gamer in the esports event as a part of their main roster.

At sixteen, Alanis is the youngest on their squad but that is not new to her. She is the youngest gamer in most of the tournaments in which she has participated. Gaming from the age of 8, she has played various tournaments and was signed by Circuitry Gaming as part of their main roster for the Women’s Car Ball championship where she finished in the top 10, leading up to this selection. Alanis is not only a gamer, but a musician. She also builds computer systems and is an A student currently awaiting her final GCSE results.

Alanis is a proud Anguillian at heart, and is the daughter of Tania Maynard-Browne and Kenyatta Browne. The Commonwealth Games Anguilla congratulates Alanis for her achievement, and we will be cheering her as she makes all Anguillians proud.
