Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel, Anguilla, earned a Five-Star rating by Forbes Travel Guide, the only global rating system for luxury hotels, restaurants and spas.
Only properties that meet the Forbes Travel Guide hospitality standards – the most stringent in the industry – can achieve this rating. The qualification is attributed to the resort’s impeccable design, world-class hospitality and unparalleled location on Maundays Bay.
Members of the Anguilla Parliament were among those celebrating the achievement with management and staff of Cap Juluca, Anguilla, at the Resort Pavillion on Tuesday evening, April 26, 2022 – the same day the prestigious award was announced.
HE the Governor, Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, and the Premier, Dr Ellis Webster, congratulated the resort’s management and staff on their milestone achievement.
Premier Webster noted: “Cap Juluca has always been the flagship for Anguilla, and so it is very fitting that this is the first hotel on Anguilla to reach the status of Forbes Five-Star. Congratulations!”
Speaking on behalf of the staff at Cap Juluca, Kevin Carty, Resident Manager, said: “Cap Juluca is all about the experience – the authenticity of it, the fact that you can feel a smile before you see it. The service aspect is what you pay for, but the hospitality aspect cannot be bought – it comes from the heart.”
Forbes Travel Guide is the world-renowned authority in genuine Five-Star service, and Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel, is the latest addition to its illustrious annual Star Rating list. Belmond Cap Juluca is one of only 322 properties world-wide to have received this recognition.
Former General Manager, Tiago Sarmento, who was instrumental in leading Cap Juluca on the path to the Forbes Five-Star rating following the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, made a virtual appearance at the celebration on Tuesday. He thanked the management and staff for their hard work and commitment, and congratulated them on the achievement – one which they had talked about for a long time. He said: “I am so thankful that we have made it – for Anguilla and for Cap Juluca. I am so proud of you all. You will always be in my heart. Congratulations, this is yours.
Interim General Manager, Mr Pedro Dias, also thanked the staff for their commitment and dedication to excellent service which contributed greatly to the resort’s rating. He encouraged them to offer their full support to the new General Manager, Sasha Tyas, as together they advance Belmond Cap Juluca to even greater achievements.
Sasha Tyas, who had been appointed General Manager of Belmond Cap Juluca just one day before the property received the Five-Star rating, noted that she has big shoes to fill.
She said: “I have only been here for two days and have felt the authenticity, the friendliness and warmth that you are a family. I am honoured to be taking over from Pedro and Tiago. They have done an amazing job and I have some big shoes to fit into. But together, we can take it [Cap Juluca] even further. I know that we can. I can see it. You have an amazingly solid great relationship with our guests.”
