About 13 years ago, a certain lad, who shall remain nameless, persistently begged his mom to plant his very own fibre pole tree.
Why? He was in love with all things kite – kite pictures, kite flying and kite building – and needed a steady and reliable large supply of fibre pole from which to carve his kite sticks. He did not want to go hunting for adequate kite sticks, year after year after year.
I explained to the lad that the fibre pole wouldn’t be ready for another year or two…or perhaps three or four or longer, even. He insisted that the timing was perfectly okay and that he was willing to wait on it.
So, I got the small tree – the biggest one that gave the less “chooks” – from Sandy Ground, and planted it close to our home.
Just a couple months ago, February 2022, to be exact, lo and behold the fibre pole tree began protruding upwards, and within a month it had more than doubled in height. Today, the fibre pole tree is towering, pushing near 40 feet high!
Sometimes, what we are waiting for may seem like it is taking forever – up to 13 years to show up – but when it does, it does so quickly and profoundly.
“Wait on the Lord. be of good courage!”
I don’t think the fibre pole tree will be dried and ready to be used as kite sticks in time for this Easter kite season, but the funny thing is, I doubt that the lad – now a young adult – even notices it.
“Wait, I say on the LORD, and watch too!”
