THE VALLEY – What is your marital status? What is your occupation? Did you work during the reference week May 4 – 11, 2011? How many children did you have/fathered? What is the main material of the outer walls of your dwelling? These and other questions will be answered by the over 13,000 residents of Anguilla in a few days.

Wednesday, May 11, 2022 is Census Day in Anguilla and on May 12, 2022 field officers – enumerators will commence the data collection phase of the Anguilla Population and Housing (AP&H) Census 2022. All residents according to the census definition, all persons living on Anguilla for 6 months or more or intending to do so, will be asked these questions when an enumerator visits their dwelling.

To ensure that the census results are comparable throughout the OECS and CARICOM, Anguilla has worked with the OECS and CARICOM in preparation for this national undertaking, in the areas of questions to be included, geographic information systems approach and the use of Tablet Assisted Personal Interview (TAPI) in the collection of census data.

There are three (3) questionnaires to be administered in this AP&H Census 2022:
? A visitation record to be administered to each household
? A household questionnaire to be administered to each household and
? An individual questionnaire to be administered to each household member

The Visitation Record (VR) is a one line questionnaire which is administered to each household by the field officer – enumerator. It seeks to collect basic data on the household size and composition. This record must be completed for all households in the enumeration district before commencement of any of the other two questionnaires. The data from the VR helps in providing a preliminary count of the population on census day and is used in planning and concretizing administrative components of the census enumeration phase.

The individual questionnaire on paper consists of a maximum of 44 questions, with one household member responding to 44 or less questions about the house and its components depending of the selected response and their associated skip pattern. There are five (5) sections on the household questionnaire. These are:
Section 1 – Listing of Household Members
Section 2 – Relationship of Household Members
Section 3 – Housing
Section 4 – Migration and Characteristics of Household Members who moved permanently
Section 5 – Comments
