Quite noticeably, Anguilla is buzzing with activity – infrastructurally.

Road Construction
Many persons observed the reconstruction of the Carter Rey Boulevard over the last few months and were curious about what the finished product would look like. We have just a few more days of imagining left.

Much attention was given to the ceremonial opening of the improved Carter Rey Boulevard this week, and motorists are surely looking forward to a smooth and comfortable driving experience in the next week or two.

But just when we thought the construction was over, the dust would be settled, the roads would be accessible, another road – the airport road – is being dug up and construction begins, alternate routes have been established, and the dust begins to fly – again.

“We are pleased to report that through the collaboration of the Minister and Ministry of Finance, the Minister and Ministry of MICUH&T, and HE the Governor and the Governor’s Office, the work to rehabilitate the Airport Road will commence on Wednesday, March 23,” Minister Hughes announced on Tuesday at the ceremonial opening of the Carter Rey Boulevard.

“We are developing the airport road which was a hazard for the better part of 50 years. Excavation of the road commenced this morning and [work] is moving along quite rapidly. We hope to have the road in use within the next 6-8 weeks – that is the hope,” he said.

The road to the new Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School complex is also under construction and progressing quite well. Persons driving to and from Omololu International School are using an alternate route, and are not too badly inconvenienced.

We will take it all in stride, not complain, and be courteous to fellow road users…because “this is change that couldn’t wait; it is progress and we appreciate it”.

Blowing Point Ferry Terminal
It doesn’t matter which view you have of the new Blowing Point ferry terminal. It is looking good and the construction project “is progressing well,” Minister Hughes reported.
“We toured the terminal on Monday and a significant amount of work has been done. We are very pleased,” he stated.

When the Blowing Point ferry terminal is completed, persons travelling to and from the seaport will have a more pleasant experience with access to services and amenities of a modern fit-for-service port-of-call facility.

“God’s timing is right. Let’s continue to put God first. #weareAnguilla,” Minister Hughes concluded.
