As Anguilla and the region at large continue to chart a course for recovery from, and coping with, the challenges emanating from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the UWI Open Campus Guild of Students – Anguilla Chapter Executive Body, is increasing its student support through its Guild Grant financial assistance initiative. Through this initiative, the Guild has awarded five students enrolled in undergraduate degree programmes at the UWI Open Campus Anguilla, with partial tuition grants for the Academic Year 2021/2022. The successful applicants are Mr. Christopher Greene, Ms. Sasha Richardson, Ms. Tiffany Moore, Ms. Twayna Thomas, and Ms. Miggy Llorera.

The Guild Grant is one of three financial assistance initiatives offered annually through the office of the Regional Guild Council. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and expressed strong financial need. The Student financial assistance initiative also includes a Postgraduate Grant offered through the Open Campus, Association of Postgraduate Students and a Guild Councillors Grant for students who serve on the Guild Executive in their respective island territories.

Grant applications undergo a rigorous vetting process by the Vice President of Administrative Sites and Services on the Regional Council, the local Executive Body and the Guild of Students Office Manager.
Prior to COVID-19, only one Undergraduate Guild Grant was awarded annually. Given the additional challenges associated with COVID-19, the local Executive Body elected to reallocate funds that were budgeted for student gatherings, enrichment, and networking initiatives to support an additional four students. As a result, the Guild of Students – Anguilla Chapter Executive Body – was able to award each of the five successful applicants some EC $563.00 toward their tuition fees. As recipients of the Guild Grant, these students are required to participate in at least one Guild-hosted activity and attend the Annual General meeting.
