The commendation came on Sunday, August 21, when the Soroptimists held their 30th Anniversary Service at St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church conducted by Fr. Paul Czoch. He warmly welcomed the women group. He specially mentioned and commended the Anguilla Club for its remedial reading programme, over the past sixteen years, to help children going from primary to secondary school. The Priest also commended the group for adopting the pediatric ward at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and for its recent workshop for school leavers to prepare them for the workplace.

Marguerite Woodstock-Riley, a Past President of Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland, the Federation to which Anguilla is affiliated, also addressed the Club members. She spoke mainly on Soroptimist International, the world’s largest service organisation for women in management and professions, working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women. According to her, there are 90,000 members in over 3,000 clubs in 124 countries. The organization has general consultative status with the UN Economic & Social Council as well as representatives at many meetings in UN centres throughout the world.
She congratulated the members of Soroptimist International of Anguilla for the work they have done and continue to do, and specially mentioned the school which the Club supports in Sri Lanka.

President Olive Hodge introduced and spoke about Mrs. EnaCollymore-Woodstock who chartered the Club in Anguilla thirty years ago when she worked as Magistrate. Mrs. Hodge announced that the Anniversary Dinner which was to have taken place at Viceroy Resort that evening was postponed due to inclement weather. That event has now been re-scheduled for Friday, August 26.
