After several weeks of steady work, all cable lines, piping and other systems have now been laid underground at the western side of the coming new Carter Rey Boulevard, otherwise called The Valley Main Road.
The excavation of trenches and manholes was carried out by a number of Government-employed heavy equipment operators under the guidance of engineers and other personnel from the Utility Companies. These companies are FLOW, DIGICEL, ANGLEC and the Anguilla Water Corporation – all of which have provided the underground cables, pipes and other facilities.

The excavation work caused much inconvenience to motorists, pedestrians and business owners – as well as disturbances to services at the Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary and to businesses at the eastern end of the Food Strip.
Now that the underground work has been completed, leaving few signs of its magnitude, except for the removal of the two-century-old tamarind trees, the actual road redevelopment work is expected to commence in the near future. The project, in a commercial area of The Valley, is being financed by a UK Government grant to the Anguilla Government – through the Governor’s Office.
