The passing has been announced of Anguillian Gomez Hodge in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He died on Saturday, September 17, at the age of 78. (He is best remembered in Anguilla as having been Sergeant-in-charge of the Police Force on the island under the administration of the St. Kitts Government.)

During his early years in Anguilla he served as a volunteer with St. John Ambulance and taught first aid in some of the schools and among community groups.

He later spent many years in St. Kitts where he had joined the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla Police Force shortly after leaving the East End School. He first served at the Basseterre Police Headquarters and then as Station Sergeant at Dieppe Bay and Sandy Point respectively. He was a recipient of the Colonial Police Medal (CPM) for long service.

He migrated to Canada, in March 1969, where he achieved a degree in Accounting and took up employment in that field until his retirement. He established close links with the Anglican community in Montreal, Quebec, and served for many years as a Verger at the Anglican Church of Saint James The Apostle. Since his sojourn in Canada he visited Anguilla periodically.

He was the eldest child of the late Rueben and Juliette Hodge of Stoney Ground.

May his soul rest in peace.
