The late Mrs. Elma (Mealy) Gumbs, had been residing in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands for many years. She took up residence there following the passing of her husband, George (Judge) Gumbs, a former Church of God of Prophecy leader. He was also regarded as a prophet during the traditional life of Anguilla as a result of his many predictions in the community.

He usually drummed through the villages, while his wife beat the other drum strapped to his back.
