It is with great sadness that we learnt of the peaceful passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, today 9 April 2021. We send our deepest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family.
The Duke of Edinburgh led an admirable life of service to the nation. He has been the strength and stay of Her Majesty the Queen for over seventy years. With this sad news, I am sure many Anguillians will be reflecting on their fond memories of the Royal visit to the island in February 1994.
The Governor’s Office and the Anguilla Public Service will be observing a period of mourning, from today until the day after the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh, which is expected to be in about eight days’ time.
Flags will fly at half-mast outside all Government buildings until after the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh. There will also be a one-minute’s silence on the day of the funeral; details will be confirmed in due course.
