The Anguilla Programme Board, chaired by H.E. The Governor Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, met on 24 March to review the progress of the various construction projects funded by the programme and led by respective public service departments.

Airport runway re-surfacing project at CJLIA

The airport runway re-surfacing project at CJLIA is scheduled to be completed this coming weekend 27/28 March 2021. The contractors, operating in a quarantine bubble, have made commendable efforts working through the night, when the airport is closed to commercial traffic, so as not to disrupt flights bringing in returning residents and visitors to Anguilla. Delivery has been kept on track due to the joint efforts of all the GoA staff at the airport, health teams and at the Governor’s Office to conclude this key project on time and within budget.

The new Western Polyclinic is now operating as a primary health centre and is open to the public. Renovations at Welches Polyclinic are ongoing and it is scheduled to reopen soon. Work on the new Valley Health Complex continues with completion now expected in June 2021.

Good progress continues to be made on the first three packages of the brand new Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, and work has started on package 4a: the new science block.
Work on the Adrian T Hazell, Morris Vanterpool and Valley primary schools continues to be impacted by COVID-19 delaying the arrival of equipment being imported from the US and Malaysia. These delays mean that completion of Valley Primary has slipped slightly to April, but Adrian T Hazell and Morris Vanterpool are due to be completed, and handed over to the Department of Education, by the end of May 2021. The DoE will then decide when to use the new education facilities at their disposal.

The contractors building the new Road Bay Jetty have deployed additional resources and equipment to accelerate the construction programme to make up time. This means the jetty should be completed before we hit the peak of hurricane season in early summer.
Finally, the deadline of 6 April 2021 for interested parties to submit their bids for the contract to build the new Blowing Point ferry terminal is fast approaching.
