After a very strong showing in their warm-up match against USVI, the men from Anguilla remain positive as they continue to prepare for their encounter against the Dominican Republic on Saturday March 27. Their friendly match against USVI ended 0-0, but the scoreline did not represent the quality of play from Anguilla.
The team had some sublime passages of play with the midfield of Germain Hughes, Kian Duncan and Aeden Scipio linking effectively with the guys up front in Calvin Morgan, Johnathan ‘Johnny’ Guishard and Cyrus Vanterpool. The defensive line – of Luke Paris, Javille Brooks, Kion Lee and Tafari Smith – was stellar throughout the game and ensured that keeper Kareem Burris had little work to do on the night. Coach Stern John was forced to substitute Vanterpool in the 23rd minute as he picked up an injury. He was replaced by Kayini Brooks. Other substitutions included Sedu Bradshaw in for Kian Duncan in the 66th minute and Jauron Gayle in for Tafari Smith the 88th minute. Duncan, Bradshaw and Gayle celebrated their first cap for the Anguilla Men.
This upcoming Saturday’s qualifier match for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 would be played at the main field of the Inter Miami CF Stadium. Kick-off time will be at 6:00 pm. Team manager, Andre Collins, described the mood in camp as focused and confident. The men have been responding positively to the changes introduced by the coaching staff and have shown good discipline throughout the tour so far. He suggested that the game would be tough but the team is more ready than it has ever been.
