One week after the launch of the Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign under the theme, “Vaccinate for you, me and the economy 3925 persons have registered online to be vaccinated and 1341 persons have received their first dose of the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 Vaccine. The majority of vaccinated persons have had no side effects while others experienced mild side effects that resolved within 24 to-48 hours. None of the side effects were unusual or unexpected.

The Ministry of Heath continues to be encouraged by the enthusiastic response thus far since last Friday. However, it is of utmost urgency that we utilize the first 8,000 doses that were sent in a timely manner. This is ensure that we are on track to get our people back to work safely and save our economy as soon as possible. The Ministry encourages all Anguillians and residents of Anguilla, other than those under 18 years and pregnant women, to register to take the vaccine at www.beatcovid19.ai.

On the other hand, the Ministry hereby categorically condemns the perpetrators of fake news. Most disturbing to date, was the social media post alleging that some persons who had taken the vaccine had fallen seriously ill and were flown out of Anguilla for medical attention. This is not true. Such dangerous misinformation seeks to undermine the vaccination efforts. Moreover, this constitutes an immediate threat to Anguilla’s future should persons get discouraged from getting vaccinated and the country does not meet its vaccination targets. Members of the general public are urged not to propagate these falsehoods and to hold such persons accountable for their actions.

The Ministry continues to focus on the priority groups. This past week focus was on healthcare workers, border and civil protection and port staff. Next week the rollout will continue with the focus shifting to hospitality workers including some on-site vaccination at hotel properties.
While we get our vaccine coverage up to the critical mass, the Ministry of Health reminds the public to continue practice hygienic measures to protect against COVID-19. These include:
• Frequent Handwashing; if water is unavailable utilize an alcohol-based hand rub.
• Covering coughs or sneezes with a disposable tissue or in the crook of a flexed elbow.
• Avoiding contact with persons who are ill with symptoms of acute respiratory infections such as fever or cough.
• Regularly cleaning surfaces and objects that are frequently touched or handled

Persons with any questions or concerns should call the Ministry’s hotlines at 476-7627, that is 476 SOAP or 584-4263, that is 584-HAND. Person who have been vaccinated and experience any side effects or adverse reactions are encouraged to report this at 235-4357 that is 235-HELP. The Ministry of Health will continue to provide timely updates through our media partners, our official Facebook page or at www.beatcovid19.ai.
