WHAT ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES THOUGHT ABOUT GOVERNOR’S VISITS

The main gathering of Elected Representatives for the Governor’s visit to District 1, on Sunday, January 31, comprised members of the Anguilla Progressive Movement Government.
Following are some of the comments of those members:

Premier Dr. Ellis Webster, the District 1 Representative: “The new Governor has started on the right track by meeting the people in the various communities. This is a sign of goodwill and mutual respect. A good relationship is necessary for us to move forward and that is what we are doing. It is a pleasure to have her visiting Pond Ground and Island Harbour in District 1.”

Parliamentary Secretary, Mrs. Quincia Marie-Gumbs: “It is very exciting to see a female Governor in Anguilla. I have always been a supporter of women in positions of power. But, beyond just being a female in power, we have just said goodbye to one of our best Governors, I believe, in the history of Anguilla [Mr. Tim Foy]. The appreciation and respect of Anguilla for the UK has really grown under his watch; and I am really hoping to see this new Governor, not only in her capacity as a woman, but also as someone who is very much aware of the dynamics of Anguilla and who will continue the work that was done.

“If you go back to the history of Anguilla to 1967 and beyond, there has been a spirit of scepticism between the Anguillians and the UK powers. Everything from there forward should have just been attempts to fix it. We now have a good place between the UK and Anguilla where we have a certain level of trust; and hope that continues to grow.”

Minister Haydn Hughes: “Mr. Tim Foy was a blessing to Anguilla and I will always cherish his love for Anguilla, his firmness, cooperation; the way we were able to work for the national development of Anguilla in terms of physical and social infrastructure and the uplifting of the Anguillian people. I really appreciate what Tim Foy brought to the table.

“This is the fourth Governor I have been able to have the privilege and honour to work with: William Allister Harrison; Christina Scott; Tim Foy; and now our new Governor. As I said before, Tim Foy was number one. The new Governor now has an opportunity to overtake Tim Foy, but it all rests in her hands.”
Minister Kenneth Hodge: “I am very impressed so far with the new Governor. We have been meeting with her virtually but I am impressed by the fact that she has been well-prepared. She has hit the ground running and I am looking forward to a term of productive collaboration. I think we are on the right track and we are going to continue what we have been doing.”

Minister Kyle Hodge: “It is good to see the new Governor is out and about in the community. This is her third day out of quarantine and is making her rounds from District 1 to District 7. She has definitely hit the ground running to be a Governor who means business. She seems to be one who will not waste time, so to speak, as it relates to moving forward with her work for Anguilla.”
